ANZAC Day

  • Collingwood Children's Farm 18 Saint Heliers Street Abbotsford, VIC, 3067 Australia (map)

At the time of the last world wars, 'Waler' horses were the most common breed of horse used on farms. They were renowned for their sensible, kind temperaments and their toughness, and so were a natural choice for the Army to buy for the cavalry to ship to the Middle East.

One hundred years later, these horses had become so rare as to be almost extinct. Living wild, they were literally saved from the knackerys by a handful of enthusiasts, and are once again making its mark with their smarts, temperament and toughness, but this time in the modern world of recreational horse sports.

Come and meet some of these amazing animals, talk to the breeders and guardians of this gene stock, and hear the stories and history of these horses and their incredible contribution to Australia as it stands today.

10-2.30pm in the Stables.
