Our Sheep

The English Leicester is a large breed of sheep that is valued for its long, strong, lustrous wool. The English Leicester ewe is also known for her strong constitution, quiet temperament, milking ability and high lambing average. This means that our ewes usually have twins that are strong and healthy, who grow well on their mother’s abundant supply of milk.

The Shropshire is a stocky, hardy breed that is primarily valued for its meat, though their wool has been used for stuffing futons and making hosiery. Shropshire ewes have the ability to lamb early, and regularly achieve lambing percentages of 160% and above. As dams, Shropshires are docile, milky and rear twin lambs with ease. They are extremely hardy and have a long productive flock life, which was well illustrated by the fact that our two original ewes were able to each successfully raise twin lambs as 10 year olds. The breed has a well-proven ability to finish successfully from grass alone.
